Message from the Principal

Dear Ashley families,

We are all excited that Cohorts A, B and C have all experienced in person learning!  The students were happy to be in school and teachers were glad to have the opportunity to provide in person instruction.  First trimester progress reports will be distributed next week.  If you have questions about your child’s progress report, reach out to the classroom teacher.

I want to thank everyone for following safety protocols like wearing approved masks (no gators, no ventilators) and practicing social distancing.  Thanks to parents/guardians for remaining on the edges of school property at arrival and dismissal.  A reminder that no one should enter school property before 8:15am.  Students who are tardy need to go around to the main office door and ring the bell.  Dismissal times are staggered by grade so be sure to check with your child’s teacher if you are unsure of the pickup time for your child.  Parents needing to come to the school for any reason should phone ahead for an appointment. Please dress your child in layers. In order to maximize air flow in the building, the windows are left open at various points and air scrubber machines are also in use in classrooms.

It is important that parents continue to monitor their child each morning for any potential COVID symptoms.  Students experiencing any symptoms should not come to school and parents should reach out to the school nurse for next steps.  In addition, New Bedford Public Schools follows Governor Baker’s rules regarding out of state travel.  If your family takes a trip to a state currently on the travel ban list, your child may not come to school for fourteen days.  When students are at home under quarantine or awaiting a doctor’s note or test results, it is the expectation that they log in remotely to their Google Classroom.  This way they can keep up with learning.

All students with NBPS Chromebooks need to charge their computer every night and bring both the charger and laptop to school each day.  Students were recently issued computer bags to safely transport their Chromebooks.  If you are experiencing difficulty with internet connectivity, the first suggestion would be to turn off the wi-fi to every other device in the house including cell phones, tablets, Smart TV’s, and any other device.  If connectivity continues to be an issue, please reach out to your child’s teacher for a number you can call.

Please visit the NBPS webpage, Ashley Instagram (ashleyschool_nbps), and our Ashley PATHS Facebook page often for information and updates.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
